Stationery vs. Stationary

Please allow me to take a moment to express a pet peeve of mine.

sta·tion·er·y
[stey-shuh-ner-ee]
noun
1. writing paper.
2. writing materials, as pens, pencils, paper, and envelopes.
sta·tion·ar·y
[stey-shuh-ner-ee]
adjective, noun, plural -ar·ies.
1. standing still; not moving.
2. having a fixed position; not movable.
3. established in one place; not itinerant or migratory.
4. remaining in the same condition or state; not changing: The market price has remained stationary for a week.
Stationery is what people write on, send in the mail, display at their weddings and events, and has been used as a means of long distance communication for quite some time now. Stationary is what I was this weekend on my annual camping trip. It doesn't so much annoy me in general, but when I see people who CREATE stationery as their means of employment spelling it wrong or using the wrong form, it drives me NUTS. I suppose there is some sort of explanation for why it makes me crazy - but without boring you with stories of childhood spelling bees, graduate classes in Literature, or hours poring over magazine copy, I'll instead direct your attention to this fabulous etsy find:

This particular listing has been sold (last month), but if you love it as much as I do, if you ask nice perhaps the seller will make another one just for you.
*Incidentally, while you're there, take a look around at shopsaplingpress's other items - many of them made me laugh out loud.

Tux invitations!

At the Bridal Affair in the Loft hosted by Ciao Bella BoudoirLimeDrop EventsFlower Power Decor and Hanlon Weddings, I met an awesome guy named Tyler from Rochester who had a great idea for some tuxedo wedding invitations. He asked me to help him design them, and I am proud to say that I just finished the prototype version. Check out how cool they turned out!

I used black 5 x 7 gate cards, satin ribbon, and actual tuxedo buttons that I ordered from a bridal tailor. They came out sooooo great!

I bought a new car!

I am SUPER super excited that yesterday I bought my very first brand new car!!! It is a 2011 Kia Soul, in Alien Green with leather seats, upgraded audio system, bluetooth, moonroof, you name it! This car is sooo much fun and so stylish! Even my picky husband likes it =) And I like that it only has 8 miles on it and that I won't have to worry about a hefty car bill for a while.

To celebrate, I have temporarily upgraded my coupon code discount to 10% off. All you have to do is use coupon code "KIASOUL" at checkout in my etsy shop to qualify!

A Nature Birthday Party

As some of you know, I have been branching out a bit away from weddings, into the world of birthday parties, graduation invitations, bachelorette parties, holiday cards, and New Years invitations.

I have been lucky enough to team up with Corinn Rocker, of Corley Designs Philadelphia to work on a couple of projects. She planned a 5th birthday party at a Nature Reserve for a little boy named Jake. Together we put together water bottle labels, cupcake toppers, food labels, lunch box tags, and favor tags. Check out her awesome pics below!

You can check out more pics from this event or from Corinn's other awesome events on her facebook page, Corley Designs Philadelphia. Be sure to check out the movie night parties! Super fun!

Posters

I recently created some custom posters for a bride in Alberta. Her wedding was in November and so she had a hot chocolate buffet and an old fashioned photo booth. I designed digital files for 18 x 24 posters to direct her guests to these two areas of the reception, and Amy had them printed at a local print shop.  Her wedding planner was nice enough to post photos of both on her blog, so I thought I would share them here too!

Below is a link to the full post.  Enjoy!

Etsy Wedding Team

I have been invited to join the Etsy Wedding Team!  This is a group of fabulous sellers on Etsy that focus on weddings and wedding related items.

Check out their blog here: http://etsyweddingteam.blogspot.com/

How cool is this?!

The other night I received an email from Leah, one of my brides. Her wedding was October 23, 2010 in New Hampshire.  I was surprised to see this picture attached - her husband's aunt made her invitation, which you can see here, into a quilt! I think it turned out beautifully. Thank you, Leah, for sharing this photo with me!!

Mayday Underground Crafts and Art Show

If you're in town, come on down to the Mayday Underground Crafts and Art show this Saturday, November 6th, at the Village Gate from 10-4. This time it's luau themed, so bring your Hawaiian shirts!  I will be there with samples of my work, giving away peacock feathers, and also hosting a drawing where you can win 25 personalized thank you cards!

In the house will also be 49 other Rochester artists, selling all sorts of fun things, Hedonist Chocolate shop will be doing tastings, and there will also be a genuine hula dancer!

Should be a very fun show, so if you can make it, I would highly recommend stopping by!

All for a good cause

front

back

I just completed some donation cards to be given in lieu of favors for a lovely customer in Albany, NY. Erin and Michael are donating to a local animal shelter that they have adopted several cats from, and wanted to share her love for animals with her guests. Check out the design below! On the back are several other "Happy Tails" from their friends and family.

Thank you, Erin, for letting me participate in an awesome cause!
